Chinese e-commerce giant Temu is facing a California class action accusing the online marketplace of using deceptive email tactics—on par with “modern spam abuse,” per the filing—to push shoppers into opening junk messages. Filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday, the complaint alleges that the discount digital marketplace used false subject lines, misleading header information and spoofed domains to manipulate recipients into opening commercial emails they would (most likely) otherwise ignore.
