Police investigating an assault in central Christchurch want to speak to the man in this photo.

Officers were notified after a man was attacked at a Hereford St premises about 1.20am on Sunday, March 8.

A police spokesperson said the victim was transported to hospital in a serious condition.

He was "understandably very shaken by the incident", the spokesperson said.

"Police would like to speak with the man pictured, as we believe he may be able to assist in our enquiries.
