Quite confused about speeding ticket process (24mph+ in TX) Very first speeding ticket of my life. Coming off a freeway- 70mph speed limit, onto the frontage road- 45mph speed limit here in Texas (admittedly had no idea as that's rare here and almost all frontage roads are 55mph), and an officer clocked me as going 73 in a 45. 24+ over the speedlimit in this city means I am not eligible for deferred disposition, and maybe only have the option to ask for it from the judge (or prosecutor?). So I went to the municipal court to ask how it works, and the clerk told me I can either plead guilty, plead not guilty and speak to the prosecutor, or plead no contest and speak with the judge. She said if I plead no contest and schedule a hearing with the judge, I will have more flexibility to discuss "options" (asking for deferred? Asking to complete defensive driving course? Reduce the charge? Questioning officers lidar?), and still have the ability to plead not guilty if I choose.…
