Trump says White House looking at Spirit Airlines deal

President Trump on Friday said the White House is looking at a deal to rescue Spirit Airlines amid reports that talks between the government and the carrier have fallen apart. “I guess we’re looking at it,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “If we could do, we’d do it, but only if it’s a good deal.”  “No institution has been able to do it, but I said I’d like to save the jobs, but we’ll have an announcement sometime today,” he said. “We gave them a final proposal.”  The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the budget airline was preparing to shut down as the $500 million bailout deal with the government fell apart.  The Hill has reached out to the White House and the Department of Transportation for comment.  A spokesperson for Spirit declined to comment to The Hill on ongoing discussions but noted “Spirit is operating as usual.”  The Journal reported earlier this month that the Trump administration is already in the midst of negotiations about a rescue deal for the…
