"Sneaky and opportunistic" recordings of his partner landed a man in the Alexandra District Court last week. Jesse Millan, 20, chef, of Clyde, admitted making an intimate visual recording of his former partner. When spoken to by police, Millan admitted the offending and said he was "embarrassed and perverted". The victim read a statement to the court describing the impact of the offending on her. She said, as a consequence of Millan’s actions, even rest no longer felt safe for her. In sentencing Millan, Judge Emma Parsons said he had taken two videos and one photograph of the victim while she was sleeping, without her knowledge or consent. The victim’s impact statement was an articulate reading of her experience of the abuse, Judge Parsons said. Making the recording while the victim slept meant she was vulnerable and could not consent. "It was unconsented and surreptitious and the photo and recording was done in a sneaky and opportunistic way," Judge Parsons said.…
