location: Maryland My father passed away unexpectedly last Tuesday. He worked for a mid-size tech consulting firm for about eight years and they provided him with a company phone that he used for everything. I am the executor of his estate and I am currently trying to settle his affairs but I hit a massive wall with his employer. My dad had a lot of his personal life tied to that specific device including the 2FA authenticatror apps for his personal banking and a fairly significant crypto portfolio. The company came and collected his laptop and the phone from his house the day after he died. I was still in shock and just handed them over without thinking it through. Now that I am trying to access his accounts to handle funeral expenses and move his assets I realized that I cannot get past the two-factor authentication because the codes go to that company phone.…
