On Wednesday night, 12 Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) senior fashion design students unveiled their work during the art school's annual end-of-year runway show. This year's cohort was: Azaria VanDerStok-Smallwood, Cali Kircher, Day Koo, Ellia Baldwin, Ji Hu Park, Liam St.Clair-Rounds, Mariam Devadze, Maya Muravlev, Micaela Giulianelli, Nerukessa, Paige Sias and Zoe Goldemberg. Each designer created at least a six-piece collection, and while their approaches were unique, a common thread was the exploration of materiality. From innovative uses of knitwear to deconstructed denim to textile patchworking, each designer clearly brought hand craft to the forefront. "[Every senior is] given time to experiment with and develop their ideas — free from the constraints of commercial logic — producing bespoke work that demonstrates meticulous attention to material selection," Apparel Design Department Head Gwen Van Den Eijnde said in a press statement.…
